Pigmented Lesions Treatment
Too much fun in the sun?
IPL technology is one of the most advanced treatments for removing unwanted pigmentation on the skin. Pigmented lesions that tend to be brown or black in color are caused by an excess number of pigment-producing cells in the skin known as melanocytes. When stimulated by hormonal changes or exposure to ultraviolet light, the melanocytes produce large amounts of melanin resulting in dark discolorations of the skin. Age spots, freckles, melasma, and blue and black birthmarks known as congenital nevi are common examples of these changes in the skin. The use of IPL technology often provides the most effective treatment option, giving you a revitalized, younger appearance.
Who’s it for?
Anyone wanting to remove dark spots!
Is it painful?
Most patients feel minimal discomfort. We use an integrated cooling system, keeping your skin cool & numb throughout. Making this treatment virtually painless!
Skin conditions treated
With our Medical Grade machines, we can treat all dark spots, including:
- Sun Spots
- Age spots
- Flat pigmented birthmarks
Age spots are also known as sunspots, liver spots, lentigos or lentigines. These skin discolorations are typically brown and flat. They appear on areas of the skin commonly exposed to the sun such as the hands, forearms, neck, chest, and face.
How does it work?
The Palomar Icon uses an Intense Pulse Light (IPL) that is transmitted through a small, smooth handpiece that is gently placed over the skin. The light then penetrates the tissue and is absorbed by the melanin in the pigmented lesion. This causes efficient destruction while leaving the surrounding tissue undamaged. A process of skin regeneration then takes place, and the treated area is replaced by younger, healthier skin tissues.
Following treatment, the lesion will gradually become darker over the next 24-48 hours & will then crust and flake off 5-21 days after the treatment.
How many treatments are needed?
Intense Pulsed Light is the fastest and most effective treatment available for dark spots. The number of sessions needed depends on the type of pigmentation but most clients are satisfied with 2-3 treatments spaced 4 weeks apart.
