What Is Belkyra™?

Belkyra™ is a safe, injectable drug that uses deoxycholic acid to destroy fat cells by separating them from their membranes. Once the membranes are no longer attached to the fat cells, the contents of the fat cells are released into the body and naturally processed as waste. This means that the fat cells that are treated and destroyed leave the body and never return; therefore, your Belkyra™ treatment will leave you with permanent results.

Belkyra™ does not prevent the remaining fat cells from enlarging, so you should be careful in maintaining a healthy lifestyle to experience the long-lasting results you desire.

Before The Treatment

Before beginning the treatment, our licensed cosmetic physician will conduct a consultation to check that you have excess submental fat (double chin) and confirm whether you are a good candidate.

When you have been given the green light for the procedure, there is not a lot of preparation that you need to do. If you are hoping to have this done before a major event, you will need to do it well ahead of time.

Prior to your appointment, make sure that your face is well-washed and avoid taking ibuprofen or acetaminophen prior to the appointment. This will help prevent bruising.

During The Treatment

After you have been fully consulted, we will take a series of photos to monitor the progress of the treatment and results.

An anesthetic cream may be applied but most patients find the treatment tolerable without it.

The treatment requires multiple injections, (20-50) into the fat layers under the chin and is a quick procedure (approx 20 minutes) with minimal discomfort. There will be some swelling immediately afterwards and for the next few days until the liquid dissipates.

After The Treatment

Post-care guidelines for treatment with Belkyra™ are minimal. You can resume regular activities almost immediately. However, we recommend waiting three days before performing rigorous exercise, such as running or lifting heavy weights. The same recovery timeline applies to your second treatment session and, if necessary, your third visit.

Following a Belkyra™ treatment, you may notice swelling, bruising, and redness under the chin.

Can Belkyra™ work even if diet and exercise haven’t?

Belkyra™ injections focus specifically on the fat below the chin. As a targeted treatment, you can expect to see the type of significant improvement that you may not have been able to achieve with diet or exercise.

How long will the swelling last after the treatment?

Most patients experience minimal swelling. But any swelling you may have can last up to two weeks and is one of the signs that the Belkyra™ is eliminating the fat cells. Icing the injection sites can reduce swelling and increase your comfort.

Is Belkyra™ painful?

The treatment area is numbed prior to the injection to minimize any discomfort.

What is the difference between Belkyra™ and chin lipo?

Belkyra™ is a non-surgical treatment with minimal downtime, it is actually considered a “lunchtime” treatment as you can return to work immediately after.

Belkyra™ works very differently as compared to chin lip, Belkyra™ attacks and dissolves fat while liposuction sucks the fat out.

When will my double chin go away?

For optimal results, we recommend 2-3 treatment sessions spaced 6-8 weeks apart. You should see improvement in the weeks following each treatment. During these periods, your body will naturally filter and remove the components of the fat cells.
