Pregnancy and nursing-safe skincare products are confusing! First of all, pregnancy-safe and nursing-safe are not the same. The body responds in different ways when nursing or when expecting.
Pregnancy-safe products are more restrictive than nursing-safe products. More ingredients get in during the pregnancy, even though the placenta keeps some out. We have to be extra careful while the baby is developing in the womb. Not all ingredients have been proven safe. Some may even cause birth defects.
There are two types of skincare products:
- Products that penetrate the skin and can be absorbed into the bloodstream
- Products that sit on the surface of the skin
