Pregnancy and nursing safe skin care products can be extremely confusing. To start, you should know that the body does not treat ingredients the same way during pregnancy as it does when nursing. The placenta does block certain ingredients out, but in general, during pregnancy, it lets a lot more in than when your body is creating breast milk.
During pregnancy, while the baby is still developing, there are some crucial points for organ development. Therefore, ingredients are much more restrictive during pregnancy. Some ingredients have not been proven safe for use during pregnancy and some may have been linked to birth defects.
However, every body is different, we reccomend discussing this topic with your physician.
There are 2 types of products:
1. Products that penetrate the skin, which can be absorbed into the blood stream.
2. Products that sit on the surface of the skin.
According to Dr. DeHaven, the Clinical Director of Innovative Skin Care- iS Clinical states that:
“iS CLINICAL by INNOVATIVE SKINCARE products are safe to use during pregnancy and nursing (lactation). Since these products do not penetrate the skin, they are not absorbed by the blood stream and therefore cannot reach the placenta or the baby.
